If you ask us, smoothies are one of the best ways to pack a lot of nutrients into a quick, easy and delicious meal. But how do you know if your smoothies are nutritionally balanced? With so many flavour combinations, ingredient options and serving sizes, it can be hard to know if you are getting the right nutrition to fuel your body.
That’s where we come in! Read on to learn more about how you can create the ultimate adaptogen smoothie blend and maximize the potential benefits of your smoothies to get the most out of every sip.
Adaptogens are a category of select herbs and mushrooms that are known to help the whole body adapt and respond to stress in a healthy, balanced way.‡ Believe it or not, they can recognize your body’s specific needs and help deliver the right support.‡ Whether you need to be relaxed or energized, adaptogens can enhance your wellness practice by helping to support a healthy immune system, lessen the effects of stress and improve your overall resilience.‡
Honestly, we might be biased, but we think that adaptogens are just about the best way to supercharge your diet!‡
Here at Rritual, we sell three enhanced mushroom and adaptogen elixir powders. You can choose to use one of these, or your own adaptogen blend to amp up the benefits of your smoothie.
Reishi Relax: Reishi has traditionally been referred to as “the mushroom of immortality” in Eastern cultures, where it is consumed for supporting longevity, cultivating spiritual energy, and bringing calmness to the mind and body.‡ Reishi’s benefits are enhanced with the adaptogen ashwagandha root, which is one of the world’s most popular herbs for stress and anxiety support, as well as to help prepare the body and mind of a restful night’s sleep.‡
Chaga Immune: Long revered for its ability to maintain and optimize immune health, Chaga Immune Elixir will help you to adapt and manage whatever curve ball life throws your way.‡ We’ve enhanced Chaga’s benefits by combining it with Eleuthero root, an adaptogenic herb known to help the body manage and respond to stress.‡ To support first line defenses and strengthen your inner warrior, an immune-supportive blend of astragalus root, schisandra berries and just the right amount of ginger are included so you can feel and be your best.‡
Lion’s Mane Focus: Lion’s Mane has gained popularity by helping to bring focus and mental clarity, even to a foggy or restless mind.‡ It contains no stimulants and is enhanced with Rhodiola root, a powerful adaptogen that has traditionally been consumed to support and enhance physical performance and cognitive acuity.‡ Bacopa, a treasured Ayurvedic herb, is also included for its well-established ability to nourish and support a healthy noggin.‡
Nourishing your body is the name of the game. The best way to do this is to make sure you have a good balance of fibre-rich carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats. Follow the guide below to ensure that your ultimate adaptogen smoothie blend includes all of the nutrients your body needs.
Step 1. Choose your adaptogen blend! If you are using Rritual products, we’ve included tasting notes and our recommended ingredient matches below:
Reishi Relax: mild cacao flavour with floral notes and just a hint of cinnamon and roasted grains. Chocolate and cinnamon flavours sing with the addition of cold brew coffee, banana, chocolate (cacao nibs or powder) and extra cinnamon to taste.
Chaga Immune: peanuty flavour with some citrusy and berry notes. Get your nut butter out and combine with frozen mixed berries, spinach and banana.
Lion’s Mane Focus: mild oak tannins and an astringent endnote. We recommend a creamy base of dairy or non-dairy milk to balance the tannins and some Greek yogurt and avocado for extra creaminess. Butternut squash, medjool dates, chia seeds and vanilla extract will amp up the flavour profile and add some sweetness.
Step 2. Choose your liquid (1 cup). This could be anything from water to milk to non-dairy milks like almond, cashew, coconut or oat. You could also try coconut water to promote hydration and restore electrolytes.
Step 3. Select high-fibre carbohydrates (1 cup). This should be a mix of fruits and veggies – we like using a half a cup of each. Veggies could include cooked butternut squash, carrots or sweet potato, or try adding raw spinach, kale, cucumber, zucchini, celery or romaine.
When selecting your fruit, pay attention to sugar and fibre content. Some great options are berries, bananas, citrus fruits like orange, grapefruit or lemon, melon, pears, and apples.
Step 4. Add a protein. This could be your favourite protein powder, or consider plain unsweetened Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or even silken tofu!
Step 5. Choose a healthy fat. (2 tablespoons total) Consider one or a combination of the following: avocado, nuts or nut butter, chia seeds, ground flax seed and hemp seed.
Step 6. Add ice to taste, blend and enjoy!!
We all know that self-care is key, especially during particularly stressful times. By creating your own ultimate adaptogen smoothie blend, you will be incorporating adaptogens into your daily routine to help nourish the body, mind and spirit.‡ You can learn more about mushroom adaptogens and their benefits.‡
